Refining with AI chat without wrecking the deck

Broad prompts produce broad rewrites — and suddenly slide five contradicts slide two. Narrow prompts preserve the story.

Good instructions

  • "Shorten slide 4 to two bullets, keep the revenue number."
  • "Rewrite titles only — more direct, same order."
  • "Add a risks slide after priorities with three bullets from my brief."

Bad instructions

  • "Make it more professional."
  • "Fix the whole deck."
  • "Make it like Apple."

When to edit by hand

Numbers, legal wording, and proper nouns — always manual. AI paraphrase is how $1.2M becomes $1.2B in a deck that still looks polished.

Order of operations

  1. Fix structure on the filmstrip.
  2. Fix copy slide by slide.
  3. Use chat for repetitive rewrites.
  4. Notes pass last.
