Speaker notes are not cheating — they are the plan B for your mouth

Pageworks drafts speaker notes with the deck — not as a bolt-on the night before. That default matters because most people never write notes until they are already tired.

What belongs in notes

• The sentence after the headline — not a repeat of the bullet
• Which number you must cite if challenged
• The question you want to ask the room
• What to skip if time runs short

What does not belong

Paragraphs you will read aloud verbatim. If it is on the slide and in notes word-for-word, one of them is redundant.

Using notes in the room

Glance, do not recite. Present mode keeps notes on your side of the screen. Practice once with notes visible so you know where the anchors are — usually the first line under each slide title.

After the meeting

Update notes with the questions you actually got. That file becomes next quarter's cheat sheet. Decks age; good notes age slower.
